I’m very blessed to work with government agencies, law enforcement, and those serving in the public safety profession. For example, I’ve worked with the cities of LA, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, the Ottawa Police Service, Houston PD, NATO, and many others–helping them become crisis ready.
In fact, I consider the work that I do with government, law enforcement, and municipalities to be amongst my most important work. Why? Because the risk they face is of the gravest nature, and the impact and the benefits that result from helping these entities and professionals better communicate and connect with their communities, both in and out of crises, is of the utmost importance.
So, it only makes sense that my book, Crisis Ready: Building an Invincible Brand in an Uncertain World was written with government officials and public safety professionals in mind.
What Crisis Ready provides to public safety professionals
Crisis Ready walks you through each step of what it means to be, and how to become crisis ready. This includes everything from:
- Encouraging and rewarding the right mindset within your agency or organization;
- Building unbreakable trust with your community and other stakeholders;
- Understanding and meeting the expectations and demands that your community and stakeholders will have of your agency or organization in times of crisis; and
- Preventing the preventable issues and crises, while providing an exact roadmap for being perfectly prepared for the unpreventable.
As being crisis ready is cultural, the book was written for everyone within your organization. From leadership, straight through to the frontline.

What Law Enforcement Leaders are saying about Crisis Ready
“The speed of crisis in the digital age can quickly overwhelm organizations ill-prepared with outdated strategies centered around press releases, and bureaucratic layers of approvals for communication. Crisis Ready serves as a strategic blueprint to help organizations prepare for and successfully navigate turmoil, all while building trust and confidence with their stakeholders.”
– Captain Chris Hsiung, Law Enforcement Executive

A must-read for anyone who understands the value of preparedness before the crisis hits.
“Crisis Ready, written by crisis management professional Melissa Agnes, is, at its core, a solid read that covers a wealth of valuable insight in its 275+ pages. Having been in policing for over 25 years, 15 of those as a police commander and public information officer, I can attest that the information within Crisis Ready is essential to the modern day police department, business, or any other organization in these days of social media.
This book provides solutions and the ‘why’ of marketing and branding, reinforcing that who we are and how we respond to crises truly defines us. Melissa walks the reader through several examples of what not to do, what’s been done in the past that could have gone different, and how to turn that knowledge into solutions for the modern day practitioner. Additionally, she explains the before, during and after crisis moments, including common sense and practical approaches that help the reader constantly improve. All of this in a well-written, easy and intelligent format.
This should be standard reading for any public information specialist in these times.”
– Doug Shoemaker, Commander, Jefferson City Missouri Police
