One of the best and the most thorough books on crisis management in the digital age that I have ever read, The Four Stages of Highly Effective Crisis Management: How to Manage the Media in the Digital Age, by Jane Jordan-Meier, is a must-read. If you enjoy my blog, then you will thoroughly enjoy everything that Jane talks about and elaborates on within her book!
The Four Stages of Highly Effective Crisis Management elaborates on the fact that:
“Very simply, your organization’s crisis plan is incomplete without a comprehensive digital strategy.” – Jane Jordan-Meier, The Four Stages of Highly Effective Crisis Management: How to Manage the Media in the Digital Age
Not just written for, or based on, North American readers or cases, this book includes trends, case studies, reports and interviews from all around the globe. It looks at crisis communications in the age of social media on a global level, and covers everything from the different stages of a crisis – and how to respond and engage within each stage – straight through to the social media prerequisites, platforms and spokesperson response strategies.
Interview: Jane Jordan-Meier speaks about the book and the importance of social media in crisis communications
I recently had the sublime pleasure of sitting down with Jane and discussing her new book. Within this interview, Jane elaborates on the importance of digital media in today’s crisis management, revealing insights, statistics and valuable information for overcoming a crisis in today’s world of speed and social media.

I really don't mean to come across as a jerk, but I have to mention the hurdle I'm having with the idea of buying this book. I would genuinely be interested in reading it, but it is really difficult for me to get past the point that a book purporting to be about Crisis Management in the digital age is not available digitally.
Now, I completely understand that publishing a book is a daunting and difficult task in any medium, but if I were to purchase this book, I would open the front cover with the bias damaging much of the author's credibility on the subject. If it turned out to be the choice of the author not to publish digitally, I would have zero trust left in the perspective of the product. But even if it was a challenge with the publisher or some other aspect of the process, there are plenty of publishing examples of getting around those problems.
Despite all that – thank you for introducing the author; I will take a look at the content on her site and perhaps change my mind regarding the book. And thank you for your blog. I just discovered it and am already finding a lot of value.

Hi David,
I can understand what you're saying, although, because I know Jane and her level of knowledge and experience, please don't let your frustrations cloud the value of her book – or allow them to have you miss out on it all together.
I will advice Jane of your concerns, and we'll see what the reasoning is and if, perhaps, there's something that can be done.
Thank you for your nice compliments of my blog, as well as bringing your concerns to our attention!
I'll be in touch.
Sincerely,
Melissa

Hello David – this is Jane! Thank you so much for taking the time to voice your concern. I hear you loud and clear, and I want you to know that I had many a long and rigorous discussion with the (rather conservative) publishers about this very subject. But they were not at that time prepared to do the diigital bit – VERY perplexing. BUT apparently they did listen and I underatnd that a digital version is to be available if not already. So David what I will do is check with them (after the 4th of July holiday week) and let you and all Melissa's readers know. Meantime, I invite you to check the book out and I do hope that you will find the contents of value to consider a purchase. More soon.
