Pardon any ignorance, Melissa, but I would consider the Domino’s nose picking fiasco a prime example of Live Streaming Crisis….yes?
Melissa Agnes says
Hi Lee,
You aren’t ignorant for asking a question… especially a smart one!
If you’re referring to the Domino’s incident of 2009, it was certainly as close to live-streaming as was available to people back then. However, it was recorded and then uploaded, which technically makes it not live-streamed.
Today, people have the opportunity to literally live-stream a crisis, which means the video is broadcasted while it is being recorded – in the exact moments that the incident is taking place. There are no time-delays.
The difference between the two types of recordings is that live-streaming presents additional risks to the organization in question (talking in the context of crisis management here, of course), due to the perception of unedited reality that live-streaming brings to the table.
